And today a lot of brands and different companies are going to be celebrating International Women’s Day by launching campaigns that really highlight and support women’s causes. So let’s look at some of the campaigns that have happened in the past pertaining to this. And one that comes to mind is in 2021, Nike released a campaign and it was called We Play Real, and that campaign showcased women athletes and their struggles as well as their achievements.. And then also Dove launched a campaign called Courage Is Beautiful, which celebrated the resilience and strength of women during the COVID-19 pandemic. So if you are a brand, it’s a great opportunity to get your message out there and create a campaign around that for what you believe in. And even if you’re too late to do it this year, it might be something that you want to plan out a couple of months in advance for next year and implement that because it’s a great way to get a lot of eyeballs on your brand and your content.
All right, now we’re going to get to some of the fun parts about International Women’s Day. Let’s talk about some of the fun facts. All right, so in 1975, the United Nations recognized International Women’s day and it’s been celebrated every year since then. In many countries such as Russia, China, and Ukraine, international Woman’s Day is actually a public holiday. Wow. How about that? You know what, maybe it should be a public holiday in the United States as well where women are given that day off from work.
And it really requires a commitment to promoting women’s rights and supporting gender-diverse individuals and also empowering women and females and even our children, our daughters, to achieve their full potential. So in order to create a more inclusive world for all, we need to challenge gender bias and work toward gender equality. And that means that it can’t be done just by one or two people. Everyone has to do their part; it’s about bringing that awareness. And that’s why in this podcast, I’m sharing education on International Women’s Day. A little bit about the history, a little bit about, you know, how we can take part and how we can do our part, right? We want to make sure that we’re creating a world where our children are going to be given a fair chance and fair opportunity. So if we start doing those things now, every single day, we can make a difference.
And it’s really a reminder for everyone to advocate for gender equality and women’s rights. And unfortunately, gender equality is still prevalent today, and it does impact women in many different ways. For example, a lot of women still get lower wages than their male counterparts. Some of them also get fear job opportunities, and then some of them also have limited access to education and health care and lack of representation in terms of even in the political world, right?
And then what happened is this proposal was actually accepted and adopted, and the first International Women’s Day was celebrated in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland on March 19 of 1911. So if you’re just hearing about International Women’s Day now, it might be new to you, but it has actually been in the making for many, many years. And since that time, International Women’s Day has actually been celebrated officially on March 8. And it’s become a global day of recognizing and celebrating women’s achievements and also putting the awareness out there for gender equality.
