As a content creator, whatever it is that you do, you’re going to want to know the latest trends, tips, and tricks when it comes to social media. In this blog, we’ll be discussing the war between YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Meta, Podcasts, Twitter, and what you can do to win with all of these platforms.

Latest TikTok Features

TikTok is reportedly planning to open a fulfillment center that’s going to compete with Amazon. Taking things into consideration, most of the content that’s being created on TikTok is pushing different makeup items, different beauty items, different home decor items, different podcasting equipment, and different office furniture, and equipment. It would be interesting to see how Amazon will handle TikTok as its competition.

Latest YouTube Features

For those of you that are thinking about starting a YouTube channel in 2023, that is a great idea, that’s for sure.  According to HubSpot Blog Research, 56% of marketers that were surveyed in 2022 said that YouTube offers the biggest ROI, ranking second behind Instagram. Statista’s research shows that over 1 billion hours of videos are watched on YouTube daily, half of the platform’s over 2 billion users worldwide.

As the app continues its growth and success, YouTube will also be gradually rolling out handles. During their launch, it was described as “a new way for people to easily find and engage with creators and each other on YouTube.” These handles will appear on channel pages, and shorts, which makes it faster and simple to mention each other through comments, community posts, video descriptions, collaborations, shoutouts, and more.

How it works is that for every existing channel, YouTube will create a matching URL (i.e., youtube.com/@handle) that will direct visitors to the channel page. The timing of when a creator will get access to the handles selection process depends on a number of factors, such as YouTube presence, subscriber count, and the channel’s activity. YouTube Channels with a personalized URL  will most likely be redirected to the new, handle-based URL.

The video giant has also recognized the importance of short-form content with YouTube Shorts. YouTube has then since released plans to place ads on YouTube Shorts, advertisers will soon be able to connect their product feed to their campaigns and make their video ads more shoppable. Shoppable video ads are already available in YouTube Shorts’ biggest competitor TikTok.

And lastly, another exciting thing that YouTube has done this year is to launch YouTube.com/podcasts, however, it is only available in the US at the moment.

Meta

Meta, who owns Facebook is having Creator Week from November 1st through 7th 2022.   How this works is they are inviting particular creators to come out in real life in certain parts of the world. This event is for them to better understand how to use Facebook and Instagram tools to build a presence, monetize their work, and be successful on the platform overall.

Another thing that’s interesting is that Meta announced that it’s going to be increasing the advertising categories and abilities on Instagram. They’re going to have two more different types of ad slots and they’re going to allow advertisers to run ads on the Explore Homepage and also in the Profile feeds.

Twitter

Twitter has some interesting things going on as well. They’re also going to be adding the ability to edit your post, no more deleting tweets over typos. Another fun new feature is that you can now add multiple types of media to a single tweet.

In conclusion, what you’re seeing is that all of the social media platforms are taking bits and pieces from each other and incorporating those things into their own platform. YouTube, Tiktok, Instagram, Podcasts, and Twitter really want to make sure that they’re capturing the audience and not losing their audience to another platform. They’re all going to have to step it up and keep stepping it up because the social media wars are going to continue to happen.
